Future packaging designers play with corrugated

11 to 14 year old pupils studying Design and Technology in the UK have been invited to enter a school competition to design original corrugated board packaging. The competition is one of the modules on PaperWorks, the award winning multimedia schools resource developed by the Confederation of Paper Industries.

The students have to follow realistic packaging briefs and create a logo and brand. They are expected to design a packaging solution based on the shelf-ready packaging requirements demanded by many customers of the corrugated industry. The contestants have access to hints and tips on the paperworks website and they can request samples of corrugated board to gain hands-on experience with the material.

Andy Barnetson, CPI’s Director of Packaging Affairs, believes that the new module will help pupils gain an insight into the innovative developments that have transformed corrugated from a packaging medium for transporting goods to a three-in-one solution comprising product protection, advertising platform and merchandiser.  He added: “Hopefully, it will inspire the next generation of corrugated packaging designers.”
