Flip books were essentially the first form of animation. They were made by slightly altering a series of images to create a “scene”. All the images would be attached in a book and, when turned rapidly, the animation would come to life. Although a very clever invention for its time, it was of course superceded by cinematic film.

Well, Rogier Wieland has breathed new life into the old “motion pictures” using the concept and a series of corrugated cutouts for this cool animation. We like very much that corrugated and other paper based materials are used so frequently by artists. In the coming months we’ll feature more examples of the use corrugated in artistic contexts.
