Corrugated changing lives in Darfur

An amazing and incredibly simple innovation is helping Sudanese refugees cook despite the scarcity of resources.  To help them rebuild their lives,  a UK charity organization  is sending families “solar cookers” which reduces the need for firewood (a very scarce resource in eastern Chad). This enables them to prepare a variety of dishes by simply cooking with the  sun’s energy.

It is built using a corrugated sheet covered with a reflective surface, a cooking pot and a plastic bag – that’s it.  It harnesses the sun’s rays and can reach temperatures of 120°C!
