Hermes Fulfilment, a warehouse operator for many companies is switching from plastic containers to corrugated storage boxes.  This comes after routine testing of their processes revealed that the move to corrugated would enable them to optimize their use of space, reduce costs and become more sustainable.

To put this into context, each of these warehouses holds thousands of articles in storage ready for their retrieval system to ship them to any number of destinations.  Previously shelf storage was in blue plastic containers.  The switch saves space and means more products can be held on the shelves. It also means less plastic is used.

In addition, the Project Manager for Logistics Planning at Hermes Fulfilment, said that as a result of switching to corrugated, the company has “a much shorter storage packaging lead time [so they] can react more swiftly to volume fluctuations in transport handling.”

Moral of the story?  An optimum sized corrugated box can save you time and money.
